Does your child pick up household chores?

As parents, we all think of our children as precious little beings that need to be protected and pampered. But our love and care should not come in the way of making our children independent, responsible, and capable adults.

And a sure-shot way of ensuring this is to begin by involving your kids in everyday household chores.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

  • Setting up the dinner table: Based on their age, every child can pick up a small task of setting up the dinner table. You could ask them to arrange the plates and cutlery or fill up water in glasses. As they grow up, they can continue to help around with cleaning up after the meal.

  • Making their bed: It’s a great habit to inculcate in every child. As soon as they wake up, get them to make their bed. They have a prepared bed once they’re done with the day, tired, and ready to sleep. Also, this habit will ensure their room stays tidy and clean every time of the day!

  • Cleaning up after their play time: Does your child have lots of toys? Do they play with all of them every day? Then, make it their responsibility to clear the floor of toys after they’re done playing. This is a great way to show them that playtime comes with some responsibilities.
